“VWe are going to present once again a great festival, a party, which this year (stretches) to almost four days”, stressed Diogo Freitas, from the organization, in statements to journalists on the sidelines of the signing of a collaboration protocol with the City Council of Funchal .
On the 27th of May, Saturday, the doors of the Complexo Balnear da Barreirinha, managed by the municipal company Frente Mar, open at 3:30 pm and the party lasts until dawn, with a performance by DJ King Kami at 00:00 am.
On that day, Flower, Verde Prato, B Fachada, Yuri da Cunha, Susobrino and Conference Inferno take the stage.
“We’re going to have a bit of all kinds to make a good festival”, said Diogo Freitas.
The businessman stressed that this year’s edition begins on May 25 with two initiatives at the Capela da Boa Viagem, in the old town, followed by a festival with kebabs and a DJ at the Café do Museu.
On Friday, May 26th, there is a wine tasting at ‘Madeira Wine Lodges’ and concerts at the Barreirinha Bar Café.
The event ends on Sunday, the 28th, with the “Save Lives” brunch at the Pestana CR7 hotel to “relax and take the pressure off the previous days”.
“What we always want is to have a party, it’s not a festival, it’s a party, it’s an arraial, it’s the Madeiran spirit transformed into a cultural event”, underlined Diogo Freitas.
“We started the first edition in 2014. I believe we had around 200 people in that first edition. Since then, we have been growing and we have a capacity of 800 people”, he said.
Aleste, whose tickets cost 20 euros, is a beach festival/arraial with an alternative music program and usually takes place in May.
The event is supported with 13,000 euros from the Funchal City Council budget, an increase of 8% compared to last year, as highlighted by the mayor, Pedro Calado.
“There is a decentralization, there is a reinforcement of support in the cultural, musical activity; it also has its gastronomic component of the camp, with traditional foods from Madeira”, highlighted the mayor.
