Task too easy – Mälzer reacts pissed off
When it comes to fine, exotic cuisine, Mälzer is hard to beat. The two Sternbergs know that too. That’s why they serve Tim a classic German queen’s pie for the grand finale in the Michelin-star restaurant Adler. Mälzer quickly deconstructs the dish: veal, chicken, morels and mushrooms. The fricassee doesn’t give him a headache. The big puff pastry is the problem. Puff pastry isn’t exactly Tim’s passion. The Sternbergs have therefore come up with something. The puff pastry will be provided by the restaurant. Tim gratefully accepts this offer: “Cleopatra also had help when she built the pyramids.” Ah yes. History is not Tim’s queen discipline.
Back to cooking: The hamburger is obviously keen on the challenge. How does he get the hollow pie without collapsing while baking? A scandal follows. Tim gets a baking paper ball filled with scraps of paper. One tip too many for the top chef: “You really don’t have to have a high school diploma to find out that it has something to do with the filling.”
Mälzer doesn’t let himself be fooled like that: “I certainly don’t need your shitty sympathy.” Now that the mystery of the pie has been solved, Mälzer feels cheated of all the fun. He feels underwhelmed and not taken seriously. But of course the Hamburg firebrand Mälzer doesn’t let that sit on his back. He now knows how the pie is put together. But at least he wants to make the puff pastry himself. “I need real opponents. If I want to be world champion, then I have to be able to compete against the Olympic champion,” the TV chef raved. What exactly he means by that remains Mälzer’s secret.
The puff pastry succeeds, and Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Mälzer even manages to operate the scraps of paper out of the pie after baking without causing an accident. The fricassee is quickly filled and it’s time to try it. The jury liked it, and Mälzer got away with the sensational score of 7.8 in what was perhaps a little too easy a challenge.
