The outrage was great, the developer reacted: the title Lost Ark distributed by Amazon was once again subject to a wave of bans. This time on the hit list: players who haven’t played the game in a while. In the end, bots are said to have been to blame.

Banned for not playing for months? Clearly a mistake

Amazon Game Studios has had a very eventful weekend. Lost Ark players complained about an unjustified wave of bans on various social media channels and in support forums. The curious thing: Apparently, accounts were almost exclusively affected that had not been in use for a long time – i.e. they could not have violated any rules at all.

On Sunday, the moderation team wrote the official subreddit: “We are currently getting a lot of reports from users who haven’t played the game for several months, who state that they have been informed that their account has been banned,” the message said. This was followed by countless descriptions that confirmed exactly this scenario – in some cases the ban apparently also resulted in the Steam account being blocked.

Trouble quickly resolved

Shortly thereafter, the developers themselves were apparently ready to comment on the allegations. According to the report, the reports of “unauthorized blocks” can be linked to a recent wave of bot bans Steam Community Hub. The sharp increase in the number of objections to these measures has led to an investigation. Accordingly, the underlying error was quickly found and eliminated.

In the next step, all incorrectly issued bans were lifted, this also applies to players who have not opened a corresponding support ticket. “This also means that any endorsements or bans have been removed from your Steam accounts or will be removed shortly without penalty,” the developers said.
