Barack Obama's two favorite songs in Spanish this summer

WASHINGTON DC – “La bebé (remix)”, by the Mexicans Peso Pluma and Yng Lvcas, and “Vampiros”, by the Spanish Rosalía together with the Puerto Rican Rauw Alejandro, are part of the favorite songs of this summer by former US President Barack Obama (2009-2017).

The Democrat has made it a tradition in the country to share a “playlist” with his favorite songs for the summer season.

Those Hispanic artists were included in his list of 42 songs, which includes famous singers among young Americans like Ice Spice or SZA, but also more traditional voices like Ella Fitzgerald or Bob Dylan.

“As I do every year, here are some of the songs I’ve been listening to this summer, a mix of old and new,” Obama wrote in a tweet featuring his selection.

“I want to know what I’ve been missing,” he told his followers.

“La bebé (remix)” helped consolidate Featherweight as one of the phenomena of the moment, being one of the two songs by the artist that was among the most listened to on Spotify worldwide last April.

For its part, “Vampiros” is part of the EP “RR” released by Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro, where they exposed their romance.

Obama’s list is headlined by rappers J. Hus and Drake’s “Who Told You,” and also includes classics like The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody” and Ella Fitzgerald’s “Cry Me A River.”

In addition to music, the former president also posted a list of the books he is reading this summer, including a mix of novels and nonfiction, dealing with issues like race in the US and economic inequality.

Among the titles are “King: A Life”, a biography of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., written by Jonathan Eig and the novel “Birnam Wood”, by New Zealand writer Eleanor Catton, which talks about the struggle of environmental activists in her country.
