Between the hope of economic improvement and the reality of slavery, many migrants who go from Paraguay to the old world bear witness to the drama they experience daily, far from their families, alone and poorly paid.
The international chain France 24, made a report regarding many Paraguayan domestic workers and other Latin American countries, who work in Spain.
The material states that A large part of the women who emigrate to that European country go with the hope of improving their economic situation and that of their relatives who remained in Paraguay.
But the real situation they go through is radically different from what is considered a dignified life. Work days of up to 16 hours mark the day-to-day of these women, who resign family life in their countries, in favor of a daily rhythm that absorbs their lives in a heavy and poorly paid routine.

“In Spain, one in three domestic workers lives below the poverty line. A particularly precarious profession, since the vast majority of these women are Latin American immigrants, often undocumented. Undeclared work, no right to unemployment insurance, unjustified dismissals, it is the only profession in Spain that does not have any legal protection and its situation has worsened greatly since the pandemic “ points out part of the journalistic work carried out by journalists Anaïs Guérard, Laura Cambaud and Sarah Morris.
Delia, one of the Paraguayans who testifies to them, says that she left alone to work, save and send money to support her children. Her hope, however, collided with a reality marked by poor pay, salary injustice, and exhausting work with hours that far exceed what is considered decent for a person.
