FC Bayern is looking for a new central defender for the summer. This is reported by ‘Sport Bild’ in its current issue. This should also compensate for the departure of Benjamin Pavard. A year before the end of his contract, the 26-year-old is looking for a new challenge.
In his preferred position in the center of defence, Pavard is usually only on the road as a temporary help. The Frenchman played 106 of his 140 games for Bayern at right back. Dayot Upamecano (24), Matthijs de Ligt (23) and Lucas Hernández (26) are now available in the center for the coming season.
Pavard profile wanted?
The trio is still at a developing age and together cost almost 190 million euros. It is therefore unlikely that Bayern will add a pure central defender from the upper shelf. It would be more conclusive to sign a player with a Pavard profile. So someone who can defend both inside and on the right.
The interest in Axel Disasi (24) from AS Monaco, recently brought into play by ‘RMC’, fits in with this. Pavard’s national team competitor can play in both positions. But according to ‘Sport Bild’ the track is cold. It remains to be seen who will be right in the end.
Emergency aid Blind could stay longer
Meanwhile, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic recently pulled an ace up his sleeve. With the commitment of left-footed Daley Blind (32), Hernández’s absence (torn cruciate ligament) should be compensated for at least until the end of the season.
If the Dutchman convinces, he could stay for another season and thus increase the options in the center of defence. Then Bayern could possibly reschedule and bring a pure right-back on board as a Pavard replacement and competitor to Noussair Mazraoui (25).
