Bayern Munich suffers loss heading into its Champions League clash with Real Madrid

MUNICH.- The left side of the Bayern Munich, Raphaël Guerreiro was ruled out for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid due to an ankle injury.

Guerreiro suffered a ligament and capsular injury to his left ankle in the match against Stuttgart on Saturday.

The club reported on Sunday that it will not be able to count on the Portuguese player “in the next matches.”

Guerreiro was injured 17 minutes into the 3-1 loss in Stuttgart. After the match, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel indicated that the player was on crutches.

Tuchel made six changes from the team that drew 2-2 with Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final in midweek. Guerreiro was one of the starters. Noussair Mazraoui, Konrad Laimer, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala were rested.

The coach took out Eric Dier before halftime, after the defender had a clash of heads with Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy in the first half. Dier continued playing with a bandage on his head.

Dutch center back Matthijs de Ligt, out in the first leg due to a leg injury, completed the training session on Sunday with the Bayern players who did not start against Stuttgart.

Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich part 2:

The second leg of the semi-finals in Madrid will be on Wednesday. The winner of the match will face Borussia Dortmund or Paris Saint-Germain in the final in London on June 1.

The merengue team is the big favorite to reach the final in this bracket, especially after they were able to eliminate Manchester City, the tournament champion in the previous edition, through the penalty shootout. Madrid will enter the duel fresh from winning the Spanish league title this season.
