Beetlejuice sequel opens Venice Film Festival

ROMA.- Beetlejuice Beetlejuicethe sequel to the famous Tim Barton movie of 1988, will inaugurate the 81st edition of the Mostra de Venice, which will be held from August 28 to September 7, announced Tuesday the festival Of whom.

Thirty-six years after the premiere of the first part Beetlejuice, American actor Michael Keaton, 72, will once again play the mischievous devil, alongside Winona Ryder (Stranger Things), who will also play the same role as in the first installment, and Willem Dafoe.

The film is once again directed by Tim Burton, the partner of Italian actress Monica Bellucci, who also appears in the cast.

“To present this film in a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival means a lot to me,” the 65-year-old American filmmaker was quoted as saying in a statement from the festival.

In the first installment, which won the Oscar for Best Makeup, a recently deceased young couple become ghosts wandering around their old house and turn to a ‘bio-exorcist’, the famous Beetlejuice, to scare away the new inhabitants.

This fantasy comedy definitively launched Michael Keaton’s career and revealed Winona Ryder, who later starred in another great Tim Burton hit, Edward Scissorhands (1990).

In the sequel, which will be presented in Venice, the character of Beetlejuice will once again accidentally disrupt the lives of the occupants, unleashing his own chaos.
