Julian Draxler’s time at Benfica will end after this season, according to Portuguese media. According to the newspaper ‘O Jogo’, the record champions are not planning to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent basis after the loan end in the summer.
A purchase option was not agreed with Paris St. Germain anyway. In France, Draxler still has a contract until 2024, but was let go without resistance before the season due to a lack of prospects. Under Benfica coach Roger Schmidt, he now mostly only acts as a joker.
Draxler scored two goals in his 512 competitive minutes, and he missed out on being included in the World Cup squad in November. However, the 57-time national player still has a few months to improve his performance and a possible rethink in Lisbon.
