Berlin Film Festival honors Martin Scorsese with the Golden Bear of Honor

MADRID.- Martin Scorsese be recognized with Very of honorary Gold in the 74th edition of the Festival International Film berlin, which will be held from February 15 to 25 of next year. The American filmmaker, responsible for titles such as Taxi Driver, Wild bull, One of ours o Infiltrators receive the lifetime achievement award at a special ceremony that will take place on February 20.

“For anyone who views cinema as the art of shaping a story in such a way that it is both completely personal and universal, Martin Scorsese is an unrivaled model,” said Berlinale managing director Maritte Rissenbeek and the artistic director, Carlo Chatrian, in a statement in which they highlight that Scorsese’s films have accompanied our history as spectators and human beings.

“His characters have lived and grown within us, his vision of history and humanity has helped us understand and question who we are and where we come from. The Moon Killers, his latest film, is one of his greatest achievements. As Scorsese himself has so eloquently put it, the film is a ‘tribute that recognizes the extent of the terror that the Osage community experienced, and that might also provide some form of solace.’ “It is a great pleasure to once again welcome a good friend to the festival and offer him our most prestigious honorary award,” the statement concludes.

Berlin recognizes Martin Scorsese

Several Scorsese films have been screened at the Berlinale, starting with Wild bullwhich was presented at the festival out of competition in 1981. A decade after its debut at the German competition, it returned with cape fear film that was already screened in Competition in 1992. Scorsese also went to Berlin with Gangs of New Yorkwhich was screened out of competition in 2003, his Rolling Stones concert film, Shine a Lightopened the Berlinale in 2008 and returned for a retrospective of his films in 2010 where it was also screened Shutter Islandout of competition.

Scorsese also presents on documentary New York Review of Booksthen untitled, as a work in progress in 2014 before its release on HBO as 50 to those of rebelliona documentary in which he reviews the evolution of the United States on a political, cultural and historical level.

Scorsese receives an award in recognition of his career that has previously been received by figures such as Steven Spielberg, who received the award last year, Wim Wenders, Ken Loach, Isabelle Huppert, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Willem Dafoe and Fernando Fernán Gómez.
