More than a week ago, the Buenos Aires Minister of Security, Sergio Berniwas attacked by a group of bus drivers in a demonstration against insecurity after the murder of Daniel Barrientosdriver of line 620, while serving.

The images of Axel Kicillof’s minister wounded and bleeding after the blows quickly went viral and, from criticism to praise, aroused all kinds of emotions.

Today, Bernie communicated for the first time with one of his attackers: In dialogue with Radio Mitre, the official and the drivers Jorge Galiano and Jorge Zerdá had a conversation on the air.

Galiano was the one who left Berni nose hurt and bleeding after a strong blow which was recorded live. After the attack, both workers were arrested and, although they are now free, they are still being investigated.

When talking this morning, Galiano took the floor and immediately apologized to the minister for his actions: “I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart,” he began.

The bus driver then made himself available to Berni or the Justice system and stressed: “At no time am I going to hide.” “I apologize on behalf of myself, my family and my coworkers,” he reinforced.

Berni spoke with the bus driver who attacked him: what did they say?

Galiano then assured that such an event “will not happen again” and remarked that he wants “a calm country so that his children can walk down the street in peace.”

For his part, Zerdá also joined the apology to Berni: “I also put myself in the position of the minister, the system of violence changed a lot and it was a moment of euphoria, I joined the tumult and I left bad.” And he reinforced: “We are not violent, sincerely minister I apologize“.

After hearing this, the Buenos Aires minister accepted the apologies of both and thanked “the fellow workers” for the “sincere act.” And, here, he took responsibility for his work: “I understand the situation, every time a Buenos Aires native is killed, I feel the obligation to apologize to the 17 million residents who trust us with work every day in a province that unfortunately kills two people every night”.

And he reinforced his position that he is one of the few officials who “go out into the streets” assuring that “he will never” “hide behind desks or govern through Twitter.”

After the dialogue, the drivers told how they experienced the tragedy of the murder of their partner on Monday, April 3: “I had breakfast watching TV after taking my daughter to school, I saw an image that they were transmitting of the murder to the 620, my son got sick, he hugged me, we cried together and they are things that move you,” he said.

And, regarding Berni’s presence at the demonstration in General Paz, he considered that “it was not the time” for him to appear at the scene. “We were all very hurt by what was happening, it took ten seconds, I can’t understand what happened, then they took me out of there when police reinforcements came to help him,” Galiano recalled.
