It’s now over a year since Ghostwire: Tokyo was launched, and the game is, in other words, regular cupboard food at this point. In addition, pirate sites have been illegally consuming since basically day one, which makes this new decision from Bethesda even more strange. As if out of nowhere, the distributor has decided to add the infamous Denuvo anti-piracy software to the PC version, which was bundled in the game’s latest update on Steam.

Denuvo has been widely criticized for its negative impact on game performance, something that Digital Foundry among others noted with the PC release of Devil May Cry 5. Even more notable is the addition as Denuvo is no longer the rock-solid solution it was previously thought to be, and especially considering that Ghostwire: Tokyo is way too old at this point. You can’t help but scratch your head thoughtfully about the whole situation.

What do you think is the reason they added anti-piracy software this late after release?

“Yarr harr didely-dee, you are a pirate!”
