Mexico City.- The President of the United States, Joe Biden, arrived in Mexico this afternoon for a work tour that includes his participation in the North American Leaders Summit.

The US president arrived at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), as requested by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who received him at this terminal.

An important security operation was deployed at the AIFA in which the presence of elements of the Army and the National Guard stood out.

Although it was established that there would be no special operation and even in the morning conference on Friday, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that the US government did not make any additional security and logistics requests, after the capture, on January 5, of Ovidio Guzmán, leader of the Sinaloa cartel, elements of the 37 Military Zone, based in San Miguel de los Jagüeyes, municipality of Huehuetoca, State of Mexico, were summoned to reinforce surveillance.

Aerial surveillance with helicopters and drones was also contemplated, in addition to the use of snipers at different points during the transfer of the AIFA Leaders to Mexico City, aboard La Bestia, as the United States presidential limousine is called.

In this vehicle, authorized by the United States Secret Service for the transfer of Biden and López Obrador, the Presidents will be able to talk during the approximately 30 minutes that the tour will last, thanks to the traffic cuts on the route.

La Bestia will take the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense and then join the Autopista México-Pachuca towards Mexico City.

The last visit by a President of the United States to Mexico was in 2013, when Barack Obama traveled to the capital to meet with then-President Enrique Peña Nieto.
