BioWare says the new Mass Effect is still in pre-production

We all remember that Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2017 was a disappointment in several ways. However, BioWare has been working on the next installment of the sci-fi series. Although they confirmed in December 2020 that they had started work on the next Mass Effect game, two and a half years later, the question arises as to how close we are to release at this point.

It seems that there is still a long time to go. In a recent blog updateBioWare general manager Gary McKay revealed that the next Mass Effect game is still in the pre-production phase. This was announced in conjunction with plans to transfer development of Star Wars: The Old Republic to Broadsword Online.

According to McKay’s words, the Mass Effect development team is in the pre-production stage, working with talented storytellers to create a spectacular new story for the franchise.

The development of the new Mass Effect seems not to have advanced much.

Since its official announcement, few details have been revealed about the next installment in the franchise. BioWare has occasionally shared concept art and hints at the Andromeda story continuity. A brief and enigmatic sneak peek was shared last year.

The next game in the Mass Effect series is being developed on Unreal Engine 5, in contrast to Mass Effect: Andromeda, which used the Frostbite engine. This choice of engine promises new possibilities and improvements for the gaming experience.

BioWare has expressed its commitment to focus on developing immersive and emotional single player games. This initiative is also reflected in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which the studio continues to improve in preparation for its release, scheduled for next year.
