The Ministry of Health of the Province reported that starting next week the bivalent vaccines that protect against two variants of the coronavirus will begin to be applied -the original, detected in Wuhan, China, and the mutation called Ómicron-; and are added to the vaccination strategy as a booster dose.

As specified, 449,280 doses of the Pfizer Bivalent vaccine are already distributed in the 12 health regions, vaccination centers and hospitals.

The health portfolio released the following scheme of places and times for vaccination in La Plata: Hospital Dr. Noel H. Sbarra (8 and 67), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Hospital General San Martín (1 and 70), Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Hospital San Juan de Dios (71 between 26 and 27), Monday to Friday from 8 to 16; Elina de la Serna Hospital -Ex Sbarra- (8 Nº 483), Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Hospital Gutiérrez (Diag. 114 between 39 and 40), Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Children’s Hospital (14 and 65), Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Outpatient Clinics – Children’s Hospital Annex (16 and 63), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Hospital Alejandro Korn, de M. As reported by Health, the vaccine that is added to the public, free and optional Provincial Plan against Covid-19 “Buenos Aires Vaccinate” is the Comirnaty Bivalent Original/Ómicron BA.4-5, from the Pfizer/BioNtech laboratory, authorized for its Use in the general population 12 years of age or older, according to the guidelines of the national health portfolio.

two variants

It is called bivalent since it is produced with genetic material that codes for the S (Spike) protein of the SARS-CoV-2 ancestral variant and the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.4-5 variant.

The health authorities remarked that this new bivalent vaccine, -as well as the monovalent ones- is safe and effective to provide protection against hospitalizations, complications and deaths against all circulating variants.

Both types of sera will coexist in the national and provincial vaccination strategy. It can be received by all people over 12 years of age who have received a monovalent vaccine (primary or booster scheme) 4 months or more ago.

Like the other doses, the minimum interval of four months from the last dose received must be maintained.

The coronavirus vaccines to be used according to age groups are, for children up to 5 years of age, the pediatric vaccine; for children from 6 to 11 years old, the pediatric monovalent vaccine.

Meanwhile, for people over 12 years of age, for primary doses, monovalent, and for boosters, monovalent and bivalent.

It was also specified that the vaccinations of the entire Province can be consulted by clicking on https://portal-coronavirus.gba.gob.ar/vacunatorios-de-la-campana-covid-19.

According to medical specialists, the arrival of bivalent vaccines is a step forward in combating the virus, which continues to attack with mutations.

Rolando Pajón, medical and scientific director for Latin America of Moderna biotechnology, reported that this firm will shortly add its own vaccine to the stock available in the country. “2021 was the year of coronavirus variants. And 2022 was the year of Omicron, which actually arrived in November 2021. During 2022 this variant mutated into many sub-variants. This generated the need to update our vaccine based on the successful and innovative messenger RNA platform to create a bivalent injection”, Pajón specified.

It is safe and effective to provide protection against hospitalizations, complications and deaths, it is argued
