Step.- For the third day in a row, Border Patrol made 10,000 migrant apprehensions as the end of Title 42 nears, at the last minute this Thursday.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has approximately 28,000 migrants in federal custody, when its capacity is 19,000.

This is much higher than its declared capacity and at what appeared to be a record, said a US official who requested anonymity to discuss internal operations.

CBP did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.

People with knowledge of the matter told Fox News that the agency now wants to avoid images of overcrowding and seeks to process migrants as soon as possible.

Against the backdrop of these chaotic scenes, the administration of President Joe Biden is increasing staffing and funding at the border, while enforcing new regulations that will deny asylum to most migrants who cross the border illegally.

The new measure will take effect when Title 42 expires, together with the public health emergency due to Covid-19.

The number of migrants caught crossing illegally has risen in recent weeks, with daily apprehensions topping 10,000 between Monday and Tuesday.

US border cities have made an effort to welcome new arrivals and provide transportation to their destinations.
