Bundesliga

It’s no secret that former Borussia Dortmund players can rarely repeat the performance from their time at BVB after moving to top European clubs.

The most prominent example of this is probably Mario Götze, who was never an undisputed regular player after moving to Bayern Munich. But players like Shinji Kagawa, who was unable to assert himself at Manchester United, or Nuri Şahin, who was rarely used at Real Madrid, are also included in this list.

But they all have one thing in common: they returned to BVB after a certain amount of time – with more or less great success.

Now another well-known player could return to the ranks of BVB.

Ex-Borusse could not meet expectations at Manchester United

Because things are not going so well for ex-Borussian Jadon Sancho. He moved from BVB to the Premiere League in 2021. Manchester United took the offensive player for 85 million euros. The expectations of the now 23-year-old were correspondingly high.

However, Manchester manager Erik ten Hag can hardly be satisfied with Sancho’s performances so far. In a total of 75 competitive games for United, the winger has only had 16 goals (15 goals, six assists).

According to the English media, his days at Manchester United are said to be numbered. The club have already informed him that he will have to look for a new club in the summer.

Jadon Sancho is said to have concrete ideas about where he wants to play in the future. According to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” he would like to return to Borussia Dortmund on loan.

The 26-time national player has good memories of his time at BVB. He played in the black and yellow jersey from 2017 to 2021. In 137 games he was involved in 114 goals. Before moving to Manchester United, Jadon Sancho won the DFB Cup with Borussia in 2021.

So it’s hardly surprising that Sancho wants to go back to Dortmund. But what does the club itself think of a possible return campaign?

Concrete discussions have probably not yet taken place. According to the “Bild” newspaper, however, Sancho’s management, the Project Elite Group, is in regular contact with BVB. Another reason for this is that two players from the Project Elite Group are under contract with Dortmund. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julien Duranville play for the Bundesliga side.

Borussia Dortmund does not want to buy back its ex-player for the time being. Sancho’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2026. His current market value of 55 million would be too expensive for BVB. Therefore, only a loan would be possible.
