I had already reported on the new Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 at the beginning of January. What was then a leak is now official. A companion model will also appear in the form of the Pi5 S2. Both in-ear headphones are already included on the manufacturer’s website own product pages represent.
The “S2” stands behind the designations with a good reason: the two TWS headphones are outdated versions of the Pi7 and Pi5, which came onto the market in 2021. But there are definitely noticeable improvements: For example, the battery life of both models has increased from 4 to 5 hours. 15 minutes of quick charging provides around 2 hours of playback time. The case of the Pi7 S2 provides an additional 16 hours of runtime. It is 19 hours with the Pi5 S2. Only then do you have to go back to an outlet. Both models support wireless charging.
Special feature of the Pi7 S2: Like the previous model, the case can be connected to external audio sources via cable and then send the sound wirelessly to the in-ears – can be helpful on the plane. According to Bowers & Wilkins, the antennas on the Pi7 S2 and Pi5 S2 have also been improved, increasing the Bluetooth range to 25 meters.
Main difference between the Pi7 S2 and Pi5 S2: The Pi7 S2 support aptX Adaptive and 24-bit/48 kHz. They use 9.2mm drivers. The Pi5 S2 “only” offer regular aptX. The Pi7 S2 also use an additional microphone for each earbud, which should improve the quality of calls. ANC is on board in both cases. But only the Pi7 S2 can adaptively adjust noise cancellation based on the environment.
The Pi7 S2 is available in three new color variants, the Pi5 S2 even in four. The Pi7 S2 is available in three new colors: Satin Black, Canvas White and Midnight Blue. The Pi5 S2 will be available in Cloud Gray and Storm Gray as well as Spring Lilac and Sage Green. Bowers & Wilkins Music acts as a companion app here. In addition, the Music app supports direct Hi-Res streaming of music services such as Qobuz, Tidal and Deezer from a mobile device to the in-ear headphones.
The new Pi7 S2 and Pi5 S2 in-ear headphones will be available from January 25, 2023 bowerswilkins.com and available from selected retailers. The Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 costs 399 euros. The Pi5 S2 in turn costs 299 euros.
