On Saturday afternoon, there was an accident on a go-kart track in Haugesund.

The police reported that it appeared to be a serious accident.

– A boy appeared seriously injured, and was taken to hospital. CPR was performed before we arrived at the scene, said operations manager Jøran Solheim in the Sør-West police district.

A little later, the police inform that the boy is conscious and undergoing treatment in hospital.

– The message was serious initially, but it looks like it has gone much better than we first thought, says task leader Henning Vik.

Happened during training

The boy’s next of kin have been notified, the police say.

The accident happened in connection with training on the track. The police are working to clarify the sequence of events.

– We investigate on the spot in the form of witness interviews and technical investigations. We will also file a case, says the task leader.

There was only one go-kart involved in the accident.

– Lost the rear wheel

Chairman of the NMK Haugaland go-kart club, Jan Øyvind Gravdal, says that he is on his way to the track at 1.30pm.

– I have been in contact with the police, and am on my way to the scene now to help them retrieve video footage of the accident, says Gravdal.

According to him, it was a professional driver who was involved in the accident.

– He allegedly lost the rear wheel on the go-kart, lost control and then drove into a safety barrier, says Gravdal.

The track will be closed for the rest of Saturday.

The police reported the accident at 12:46 on Twitter.
