Carl Hoefkens has to vacate his post at Club Brugge. The Belgian first division team officially announced the separation from their head coach on Wednesday. Hoefkens, who has been with the U18s and U21s since 2018, only took over the position with the 18-time champions in the summer. In the Champions League, Bruges reached the round of 16 in a group with FC Porto, Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

Things are worse at national level: In the league they are twelve points behind the top of the table in fourth place, in the cup it was over in the round of 16 on Wednesday. Managing Director Vincent Mannaert announces: “We are now working on the best possible successor for the club.” Meanwhile, Hoefkens “Contribution and his commitment[…] very appreciated. His contribution to the successful Champions League season should not be underestimated either.”
