In Japan, Canon presented the balance sheets for its global business in the first quarter of fiscal year 2023. Compared to the first reporting period of the previous year, sales increased by 10.4 percent to the equivalent of 6.58 billion euros. The profit for the entire company even grew by 15.1 percent to almost 3.1 billion euros.

The company’s imaging division, in which Canon combines its photo and video cameras as well as network and surveillance devices, contributed the most to this. Here, sales increased by 22.4 percent and profits by as much as 178.8 percent. But that’s loud Canon’s presentations not only because of the generally increased prices for new devices.

Rather, the market leader in system cameras is observing increasing demand in all areas and, contrary to earlier fears, a reduced risk in exchange rates. According to Canon, increased travel should also ensure more cameras are sold. The biggest growth drivers, however, are the network and surveillance cameras, where 47.8 percent more sales were achieved, with EOS and other series it was possible to earn 8.5 percent more money.

For these cameras, Canon cites the success of both the new cheaper devices like the EOS R50, as well as increased sales of the EOS R7, EOS R10 and EOS R6 Mark II that were launched in 2022. Apparently, the previous delivery problems have been largely resolved here. For all of 2023, Canon plans to sell 2.9 million cameras, up just 1 percent from the previous year. New models are also to appear, which Canon has not yet announced.
