Like every first Monday in May, this 1st of May took place on Met Gala, the annual fundraising gala and major media event that marks the inauguration of the New York Costume Institute’s annual exposition. Each year, the stars meet with the aim of dressing in the theme of the exhibition, the objective being to make an impression. Covered by media around the world, the event is also an opportunity for stars to make announcements important to them. In 2023, pay tribute to Karl Lagerfeld

Last year, on the theme of the golden age, it was Stromae who made a remarkable appearance for her first show on this carpet, but also Blake Lively who made an impression with a color-changing dress and especially Kim Kardashian who wore a dress that belonged to Marilyn Monroe and for which she had to go on a drastic diet which had caused a lot of criticism. In 2023, the goal was to pay tribute to the work and legacy of Karl Lagerfeld and the least we can say is that the guests had had the word. Starting with the stylist Olivier Rousteing, right in the theme by wearing a “Karl Who” totebag (literally “Karl who?”, editor’s note) while he displayed the hand-drawn face of the late couturier on the cape. almost 10 meters long that he had created and worn by actor Jeremy Pope.

Rihanna and Penelope Cruz as brides

Kim Kardashian, who had so much attention in 2022, went much more noticed this year with a nevertheless remarkable outfit: a beaded curtain dress, in a nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s penchant for pearls. She was accompanied by her sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner. Another personality whose outfit hit the mark: Rihanna. All dressed in white in the arms of her companion Asap Rocky, from whom she is expecting a second child, she wore a impressive wedding dress as well as a coat on which flowers had been embroidered. The actor Jared Leto had the same dash of humor, pushing the level a bit further since he was hidden under a cat disguise. A tribute so successful that he found himself posing surrounded by stars Salma Hayek and Anne Hathaway. The latter had arrived with the stylist Donatella Versace and wore a long strapless dress in a tweed fabric, split and held with safety pins. Marion Cotillard sported a pastel pink haircut and the Chanel dress she wore in 2008 when she won the Bafta for Best Actress for her performance in The kid.
