Juarez City.- The CBP One mobile application to apply for entry to the United States will continue despite the end of Title 42, on May 11, but with additional appointments, the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported today.

The US government asked migrants not to be fooled by human traffickers before the end of Title 42, since the expulsion order will end, but deportations will continue through Title 8.

“Today, around the world, there are people fleeing their homes and their countries due to hunger, violence, political repression, poverty and lack of opportunities. Many seek security and opportunity in the United States, and other countries in the region. Criminal networks seek to take advantage of migrants, they do so with lies about the immigration laws of the United States and hide the dangers of migrating illegally to enrich themselves,” warned the Joe Biden government.

He reported that the United States border with Mexico remains closed for those who do not have the necessary documents to cross the border.

“The immigration laws of the United States remain in force and are strictly applied, even with the end of the public health order, known as Title 42”, and upon conclusion, on May 11, the DHS will begin to apply Title 8, which implies other consequences, such as a punishment for five years.

The elimination of Title 42 does not mean that the border is open, “when Title 42 is withdrawn at 11:59 PM on May 11, the United States will return to the use of Title 8 immigration authority to expeditiously process the removal of individuals who entered the United States illegally. This decades-old authority contains severe consequences for irregular entry, including at least a five-year ban on re-entry and potential criminal prosecution for repeated attempts at illegal entry. The return to Title 8 is expected to reduce the number of repeat attempts over time, which was increased significantly under Title 42,” he reported.

Individuals who cross into the United States at the southern border without authorization or using a legal route, and who have not scheduled an appointment to report to a port of entry will be ineligible for asylum under a proposed new rule, if there is no an applicable exception, DHS warned.

The US government announced tougher consequences for not using legal routes for Title 8 defendants, such as expedited removal in a matter of days, being barred from entering the United States for at least five years if ordered removed, and will be deemed ineligible for asylum under the Evasion of Legal Routes rule, if there is no applicable exception.

“To avoid these consequences, individuals are encouraged to use the many legal routes that the United States has increased over the past two years. Today, the United States is announcing more legal pathways, including: Increased access to the CBP One app to obtain an appointment to appear at a port of entry,” she reported.

When Title 42 is lifted, migrants in central and northern Mexico will have access to the CBP One mobile app to make an appointment and report to a port of entry, rather than trying to enter between checkpoints.

It was reported that the Department of Homeland Security is creating a new family reunification process for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Colombia. And it will continue to accept up to 30,000 individuals from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Haiti each month as part of the expansion of this humanitarian program announced at the beginning of the year.
