Google has launched its first connected watch: the Pixel Watch. Far from being perfect, we appreciate it for its pretty pebble format, the fluidity it offers and the precision of the GPS. For those interested, it is cheaper at the moment: 339 euros instead of 379 euros.
After equipping many smart watch of its WearOS operating system (formerly Android Wear), Google is finally embarking on the design of connected watches with its Pixel Watch. This first version is not free from flaws, and received a score of 6/10 in our test. Fortunately, the Mountain View company has since brought an update to its wearable, which fixes bugs and even adds a few features for the user. It will also appeal to those who own a Pixel phone and will benefit from a well-finished product ensuring good fluidity. Google Pixel Watch at the best price?
A small, rounded format
No square format like the Apple Watch, here Google is inspired by watch brands with a round format. It is only available in one version (41 mm), and will not be very suitable for people with larger wrists. It nevertheless has the advantage of being discreet and sober, in particular thanks to the glass of its screen which extends to the edges of the case. And with its proprietary strap attachment system, the tocante gives the possibility of customizing the aesthetic appearance according to your desires (sport or leather strap).
Once turned on, the Pixel Watch reveals an Amoled panel with a definition of 450 x 450 pixels and a density of 320 pixels per inch (ppi). The quality is there and the brightness is high enough to use it without any problem outdoors in direct sunlight. Moreover, its brightness sensor will automatically adjust the brightness according to the ambient lighting, in addition to the manual adjustment on three levels offered natively by the watch. There is also an Always-On mode.
A fluid experience, with a somewhat tight autonomy
To operate efficiently, the Google Watch incorporates an Exynos 9110 chip, the same as that of the first Galaxy Watch in 2018. Too bad to find a dated chip, but the Pixel Watch manages to provide a fluid experience under WearOS, whether you navigate in the menus or loading an application. It is of course equipped with many sensors to measure your data related to your health or your sports training. On the other hand, we were able to observe during our test that the Spo2 is not accessible and the heart rate monitoring proved to be less reliable at a high heart rate. The watch makes up for it by offering accurate GPS tracking and works with 41 different sports.
Regarding autonomy, the manufacturer announces a duration of 24 hours. This was well confirmed during our test with an autonomy which is indeed around 24 hours and can go up to 26 or 27 hours in the best case. It will therefore be necessary to expect to recharge it every day, especially since during the night, even with the screen off, the autonomy drops by almost 40%. This is all the more a concern if you want to analyze your sleep. Finally, the watch will fully recharge from 0 to 100% in 1h18.
