PARIS.- Singer Celine Dionabsent from the stage since 2020 due to illness, performed the famous The hymn to love of Edith Piaf tonight – July 26 – from the first floor of the Torre Eiffel moments after the Olympic cauldron was lit.
The 56-year-old Canadian had already performed at the opening of the Olympic Games from Atlanta-1996.
Few imagined her in Paris after seeing the shocking passage in the recent documentary I am: Celine Dionwhere she appears shaken by spasms, overcome by pain, in the middle of a crisis, due to the fact that she suffers from Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS).
This rare neurological disease with no known cure has forced her to abandon her career.
Dion has a special bond with France, where she arrived with the album Two (1995), written by French composer Jean-Jacques Goldman.
In 1997, the planet succumbed to My heart will go onon the soundtrack of the production Titanic, by James Cameron.
