Edinburgh.- Celtic was one step away from completing another treble of titles in Scottish football.

The Glasgow club revalidated the league title with four dates in advance. A 2-0 win at Hearts on Sunday left Celtic with an irretrievable lead over classic rivals Rangers.

Celtic reached 53 league titles in their history, two short of Rangers’ record of 55. Celtic have won 11 championships in the last 12 years.

Celtic had already lifted the Scottish League Cup after beating Rangers 2-1 in a final played in February. They will meet Inverness Caledonian in the Scottish FA Cup final on June 3 in an effort to complete the treble, something they did every year between 2017 and 2020.

Japan striker Kyogo Furuhashi scored the opener in the 67th minute, but had to retire moments later after injuring himself in the celebration. South Korean attacker Oh Hyeon-gyu scored the second goal in the 80th minute with a header.

It was Celtic’s second straight league title under Australian manager Ange Postecoglou.

Celtic have lost just one of 34 league games this season, visiting St. Mirren in September.

The only other club to have managed to win the league since 2012 was Rangers in 2021 when Steven Gerrard was manager.
