The Lustenau Red Cross department took stock of a busy, intense and exciting year 2022.

Lustenau. The Red Cross department in Lustenau currently has around 220 members – 165 of whom are volunteers. The main part of the activities performed is the rescue and patient transport, with the number of operations increasing continuously from year to year.

An increase of 448 people

In addition, there were 7,325 emergency and medical operations with 8,727 patients last year. Of these, 683 emergencies with an ambulance and 902 emergencies without an ambulance, 3,314 patient transports, three disabled trips, eleven long-distance trips and 2,334 rescue operations were counted. Compared to the previous year, this resulted in a decrease of 44 assignments, but an increase of 448 people. “The work of our employees is often not easy and they are confronted with challenging situations every day, but the commitment of each individual is invaluable,” says Commander Marcel Holzer, expressing special thanks to the entire team.

High quality in daily service

The corona pandemic also made great demands on the members of the Red Cross department in Lustenau last year, resulting in periods of maximum sick leave. In addition, there was a lack of civil servants over the summer months and so this time had to be bridged with temporary workers. “Thanks to the good cooperation of our full-time employees, civil servants and volunteers, the diverse tasks of our department can be implemented with high quality,” says department manager Reinhard Wohlmentioned, looking back positively on the year 2022.

Increase in ambulance services

In addition to the rescue service, the Lustenau Red Cross department provides rapid assistance at numerous sporting and cultural events every year, and so the number of ambulance services increased again last year. In total, more than 630 hours were worked at numerous events in 2022, which means an increase of more than 40 percent compared to the previous year. In contrast, the First Response Team Rheindelta reported a relatively quiet year. In 2022, for example, the rescue workers were on site for 63 missions and were able to carry out immediate life-saving measures in several cases, which made a significant contribution to the survival of the patients.

Great commitment and personal commitment

In addition, the members of the Red Cross department in Lustenau invested numerous hours in a wide variety of other areas – from call assistance to disaster control and, of course, ongoing training. The Lustenau youth group was also able to take off again last year and held numerous events with the junior paramedics. “It is the great commitment and personal commitment of each individual member of our Red Cross department that allows reliable help and important offers for our population.
