Chelsea FC officially announced the signing of João Félix on Wednesday. Eleven million euros flow to Atlético Madrid, the Blues pay the full salary of the Portuguese and still could not secure a purchase option for the loan player.
The 23-year-old is the latest achievement of Chelsea management around new owner Todd Boehly, who brought four newcomers to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window: David Datro Fofana (20/Molde FK), Benoît Badiashile (21/Monaco ), Andrey Santos (18/Vasco da Gama) and Félix.
Thuram further on the list
Winter newcomer number five could possibly come from the Bundesliga. According to Fabrizio Romano, Félix’s loan will not change Chelsea’s plan to bring Marcus Thuram from Borussia Mönchengladbach to London. The negotiations for the 25-year-old should be continued in the near future.
FT had reported exclusively about the Blues’ interest in Thuram a week ago. The Frenchman is available on a free transfer in the summer and would prefer not to leave the Foals until the contract expires, but Chelsea would rather bag the deal for a fee now than have to face numerous rivals in the summer. With a corresponding offer, things could quickly get moving.
