Munich’s Valentin-Karlstadt-Musäum is dedicating a separate exhibition to the important German comic artist Gerhard Seyfried. From May 11th to July 11th there will be a extensive work show presented by the artist who describes himself as a Karl Valentin fan.

According to the announcement, he provided original drawings that had never been shown publicly before. The exhibition takes place in cooperation with the Munich Comic Festival which will be held from June 8th to 11th. Seyfried honored this in 2021 with the “PENG! Prize” for his life’s work.

Seyfried was born in Munich in 1948 and has lived in Berlin since the 1970s. According to the announcement, the “most important German artist of underground comix” also works as a cartoonist and author. With works like “Freakadellen und Bulleten” or “Invasion from everyday life” he is one of the “most diligent chroniclers of the left and alternative scene”.

In San Francisco he collaborated with Gilbert Shelton on his comics about the “Freak Brothers”. In addition, Seyfried is very interested in German colonial history. This is reflected in novels such as “Damned Germans!” or “Herero”. (KNA)
