Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated, on Friday in Buzău, that he has not yet assumed the draft law on fiscal measures and announced that he will have, on Monday morning at 9:00, a new meeting with the Minister of Finance Marcel Boloş. The PSD leader explained that there are always changes, questioning whether there will be any changes to the legislative proposal.

“I haven’t taken on the law yet. There are always changes. I haven’t taken on the law yet. Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. I will have another meeting with the Minister of Finance on the whole calculation of the law”, explained Marcel Ciolacu, on Friday in Buzău, with reference to the draft law on the new fiscal measures which was in the first reading in the meeting of the Executive on Wednesday and on which the prime minister will assume responsibility in Parliament.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared, on Wednesday, regarding the draft law on some fiscal budgetary measures to ensure the financial sustainability of Romania in the long term, which is in the first reading in Wednesday’s meeting of the Executive, that the legislative initiative aims to stimulate honest work and discourage the “gateways of fiscal optimization and evasion”.

Also, “the reduction of state expenses is the first, followed by the increase in collection and the fight against tax evasion. And the key elements of the project are related to the Overtaxation of luxury, vice and excessive profit and, extremely important, to ensuring fiscal equity between taxpayers”, the PSD leader added.

The Head of Government also said that a new tool to reduce fraud and tax evasion will be the E-seal, through which the traceability of goods will be tracked and another measure will be taxing unjustified amounts by natural persons by 70%.

The Prime Minister recalled that the minimum wage in the economy will increase from 3,000 to 3,300 lei and in construction, from 4,000 lei to 4,500 lei.

“We are additionally taxing the banks’ profit and, above all, we are coming up with a new philosophy in the case of large companies, which will pay a tax of at least 1% of the turnover”, Ciolacu also stated. The Head of the Executive gave assurances that the general VAT rate of 19% will not be increased and a reduced rate of 5% for wood, thermal energy, books, manuals and cultural events will be kept, respectively the 9% rate for food and medicines.
