The plans for the empty section of the town hall for renovation are in place – but it is still unclear where the citizen service and registry office will move to until then. “The KIS is currently in ongoing negotiations, so no information can be given about it yet,” said city spokeswoman Juliane Güldner on request. Originally, the administration had already announced information about the new rooms for last summer, even then it was already said that negotiations were in progress. A citizen service offer in the Karstadt branch is also under discussion.

The alternative location is scheduled to go into operation on July 1st. By the end of 2023, passports will be issued there, cars will be registered and weddings will be held there. Some of the administrative staff are to move into a building on Edisonallee, but not the areas with a lot of contact with the public. Three and a half years are estimated for the renovation of the town hall.
