After the release of Gears of War 3, the creator of the series, Cliff Bleszinski, decided it was time to move on. He started his own studio called Boss Key Productions, but their first title LawBreakers failed to gain a stable player base and was forced to shut down.

Since then, Bleszinski has done lots of things outside of the gaming world such as theater production and writing a book. Now he has launched his next venture, which is to be a series creator. He lets go Scrapper along with co-writer Alex de Campi and artist Sandy Jarrell on July 19, complete with Image Comics as publisher.

Scrapper is a stray dog and also the protagonist of the story, fighting against totalitarian forces in a dystopian city, which turns out to be a very dangerous job. Cliff Bleszinski is a known animal lover and his love for dogs is well documented, so it seems fitting that he chose this particular character. He himself explains:

“As a lifelong fan of comics it’s an honor to actually create one with Alex. Scrapper comes from the heart; first, the loss of my Aussie Teddy and then finding puppy love again with our Pomsky Lady. I truly hope everyone enjoys this deeply personal work.”

We’re guessing there’s a fair chance the number one could become a collector’s item eventually, and the premise sounds interesting. Will you be checking out this comic?
