The distance to the climate goal in 2045 is decreasing, but it is uncertain whether the stage goals to 2030 will be reached. That is the conclusion in the documentation that the Environmental Protection Agency submitted to the government on Thursday.

According to the report, Sweden’s climate goals for 2030 will not be reached if a comprehensive reduction in the reduction obligation on diesel and gasoline is implemented and maintained.

Underlying climate policy action plan
The report is a basis for the government’s climate policy action plan to be presented in the autumn.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s analyzes show that the conditions for Sweden to succeed in the climate transition have improved. Among other things, they see an increased willingness to invest in business.

Long-term policy decisions
“In order to take advantage of these conditions, climate policy needs to be given a prominent role in all relevant policy areas. Long-term political decisions are required that have a broad foundation and last over time,” says Stefan Nyström, head of the Environmental Protection Agency’s climate department in a press release.

According to the Climate Act, the government must present a climate policy action plan every four years. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is tasked with producing documentation for this and it has now been handed over.
