ANDn a statement, the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha invites “all those interested to celebrate the European Night of Museums and the International Day of Museums in this historic and emblematic place of the city”, stressing that it will be “a unique and unforgettable cultural experience” .

On Saturday, May 13th, throughout the day, on the perimeter of the monument, on the left bank of the Mondego river, two workshops are held, one entitled ‘Sustainable monastic garden’, for children from 6 to 12 years old, followed by another on ‘ The knowledge of our grandparents’.

“Through seeds and pollens, it was possible to discover some species of plants cultivated here (in the Middle Ages), such as chamomile, thyme and oregano, used in food preparation or in apothecary”, points out in the note the Regional Directorate of Culture of Center, directed by Suzana Menezes.

In the evening, between 21:00 and 22:00, there is a multidisciplinary guided tour around the impact of climate change on the Santa Clara-a-Velha ruin.

On the International Day of Museums, May 18, some of the initiatives of the 13th are restored at different times, excluding the workshop ‘Sustainable monastic garden’.

For its part, the National Museum of Machado de Castro (MNMC) begins to celebrate the European Night of Museums at 15:00 on the 13th, with the initiative ‘Incursion into a photographic archive: Coimbra and the MNMC in the mid-20th century’, promoted by the institution’s League of Friends.

At 17:30, in the greenhouse of the Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra, the MNMC organizes the conversation ‘Museums, sustainability and well-being. Challenges and opportunities’.

From 4:00 pm until 11:30 pm, for children up to 12 years old, the program “Painting of ‘Pedrinhongos’ and three-dimensional collages” takes place, run by Cooperativa Pedrinhas, born in Lousã in posthumous memory of Pedro Brasiao Rodrigues.

At 21:30, the plastic artist Victor Costa paints a ‘Pedrinhongo’, inspired by the drawings left by the boy Pedro Brasião Rodrigues.

The evening, from 20:30, also includes drawing of caricature profiles and a piano recital by Klaudia van Eenbergen.

To mark International Museum Day, May 18th, the MNMC, among other initiatives, promotes the Fragosiano Cultural Soiree at 16:00, with the exhibition of the play ‘Noturno’ and the documentary ‘The brief life of António Fragoso’, while more live caricature sessions.
