The environmental emergency that Chile is experiencing has alerted all the countries in the region, since the extensive fires that plague this nation have already claimed several lives and have not yet stopped. From Colombia, the president Gustavo Petro decided to join international cooperation and ordered an aircraft to be sent to southern territory, which carries emergency personnel and equipment to mitigate the conflagration.

The president stressed that the aircraft will have personnel specialized in mitigating this type of situation

Regarding this mission, the Air Force highlighted that the freighter that will fly for more than 10 hours until Santiago de Chileit will also take with it an important set of tools, since from the southern capital, it is expected to go to the affected regions to work with them, clearly, under the designs of the authorities of said country.
“The Colombian Air Force arranged for a crew of the C-295 aircraft of the Military Transport Air Command – CATAM, which in a humanitarian flight will transport 20 men from the Cali-Valle del Cauca Fire Department, a volunteer from the Red Cross, 05 of the Special Operations Unit in Emergencies and Disasters of the National Police and a member of the UNGRD. Likewise, it will transport necessary equipment and tools, so that specialists in this type of emergency can contribute to the extinction of the dozens of fires, which have already burned more than 270,000 hectares in Chilean territory”, highlighted the Air Force.
As of January 30, 2023, the regions of Maule and the araucania in Chile they have suffered several fires that presumably have been caused by the citizens themselves, since the cause of these is called anthropogenic impact. According to the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (SINAPRED), more than 100 alert messages have been received for this situation.

In the first week of January, Petro visited Chile and met with Boric. Among the topics discussed, he specified two; since he highlighted the need to work on a democratic pact throughout Latin America, having that, in countries like Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia, political positions have been marginalized. For the Colombian president, it is not possible to judge, regardless of the position of each person.
