The agents of the 9 Oberá Squad of the National Gendarmerie were alerted yesterday that a truck loaded with melons and watermelons had been stranded some thousand meters from the checkpoint on Provincial Route 6 after colliding with a light pole. The operation was carried out in the Tacuara area.

According to what was reported this Thursday by official sources of the Force, when the officers approached, they came across a surprise: it was not only fruit that the driver of the red Ford 7000 was carrying, who had fled at that point: they found a large amount of marijuana. When weighing it, he gave more than 4.7 tons of the drug.

In the back of the vehicle, which was damaged without the possibility of continuing on its way, they noticed the presence of 253 packages containing 5,253 loaves of marijuana, covered with watermelons and melons, used to conceal the load.

Faced with this situation, the truck was towed to the squad unit, where the drug was subjected to narcotest field tests, which yielded positive results for cannabis sativa with a total weight of 4,768.428 kilograms.

The Court and the Oberá Federal Prosecutor’s Office are involved in the case.
