Sebastien Haller is back. The striker, who was only signed by BVB in the summer for 31 million euros, has been out for several months due to testicular cancer. After several surgeries and chemotherapy, Haller was back in training for the first time. He wrote an emotional message about it.

First, Haller and BVB reported to their fans with a video message. There the Ivorian reported beaming that he was “finally back”. However, he also got a little emotional and explained:

“It wasn’t that easy, but with your help I found it easier.”

Now he is looking forward to seeing the BVB fans back in the stadium and “getting a few wins”. Shortly thereafter, Sébastien Haller posted two more photos from his training session, repeating his message and wishing the fans a Happy New Year. There he announced that he would be back on the field in 2023. In addition, despite everything, 2022 “prepared him for all the new challenges that will come my way in 2023”.

Cases of testicular tumors in the Bundesliga are increasing

A number of clubs and other top players commented on Haller’s comeback, including Nico Schlotterbeck and Timo Baumgartl, who also suffered from testicular cancer in 2022. The Union Berlin centre-back was diagnosed just a few months before Haller and has been back in training since August.

Due to their same fate, the two players had exchanged views on several occasions. The same happened to Marco Richter and Jean-Paul Boëtius from Hertha BSC, who also had a testicular tumor, but did not need chemotherapy after an operator.

Sébastien Haller was one of BVB’s top signings, which is why his absence also presented the club with the challenge of finding a replacement at short notice. Now, for the first time, Haller has the time and the strength to really arrive at Dortmund.
