ANDn 2024, Comic Con Portugal will occupy all of Exponor’s space, “in a covered area of 60,000 square meters and a total area of 200,000 square meters”, announced today José Luís Machado, marketing director for the event, in a press conference at Cinema Batalha, in Porto.

“We are going to build a new pavilion, more parking”, assured, for his part, Paulo Rocha Cardoso, executive director of Comic Con Portugal.

The entire area will cover a mobility circuit that will be worked with the three municipalities of the Atlantic Front – Porto, Matosinhos and Gaia -, added Paulo Rocha Cardoso, stating that it was “extremely difficult to hold Comic Con Portugal this year”.

The organization of the event explains that the return to Matosinhos and Exponor made sense to celebrate the 10 years of the event in the same place where it started in 2014 and this was only possible due to the “synergy established between Comic Con Portugal and the Atlantic Front (Matosinhos, Porto and Gaia)”.

“The involvement of the cities of Porto, Matosinhos and Gaia fulfills many of the needs that an event of this size has to ensure that it meets the demands of the cinema, television, videogames, literature, comics, as well as creating the necessary conditions to accommodate the thousands of fans who visit it”, said Paulo Rocha Cardoso.

The executive director also praised that the “partnership is not limited only to the event”, but also to carrying out “various activities throughout the year 2023 until the next edition in 2024, in the three municipalities”.

“The choice of dates is not arbitrary. We have to see the gaps that happen in the industry, because from May to September the industry is all stopped”, explained Paulo Rocha Cardoso, referring that the date has to make sense also with other Comic Con worldwide , such as Brazil, to also evaluate the possibilities of bringing artists and brands.

Asked by journalists about the investment for Comic Con Portugal 2024, Paulo Rocha Cardoso said that “it is incalculable”.

“We have a big investment every year. There are hundreds of people who work tirelessly. The value is not the important thing, the important thing is the partners and creating an event at an international level. We try above all to create the best possible event”, said the executive director of Comic Con Portugal.

José Luís Machado recalled the beginning of the event, almost 10 years ago: “For four years we were in Matosinhos with a lot of emotions, but the industry’s demand for an event on a larger scale forced us to head south, to Oeiras, to attract international brands”.

The covid-19 pandemic led the organization to adapt Comic Con, with a digital auditorium, interviews with national and international talent, and film previews.

In 2021, Comic Con Portugal was forced to change the event dates because of the pandemic and the event moved to December in Lisbon, at Altice Arena, where it happened again, at the end of last year.
