The EU Commission has proposed a new package of sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine war. The aim of the new measures is to curb the circumvention of existing sanctions, as announced by Commission spokesman Eric Mamer today.

“The goal is to prevent goods banned for export to Russia from finding their way into the Russian military complex,” he said.

Companies from China and Hong Kong are also likely to be affected

The package of sanctions proposed by the Commission is the eleventh since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

According to a document available to the AFP news agency, companies from China and Hong Kong are said to be affected by the sanctions over the Ukraine war for the first time. These eight companies are accused of exporting problematic goods to Russia.
