Anyone looking for a computer for a music studio faces a problem: on the one hand, large arrangements that occupy many tracks and effects in a digital audio workstation (DAW) require an enormous amount of CPU processing power. The work sometimes takes hours or days and, in contrast to an office PC, such a computer runs at full speed most of the time. Nevertheless, its fans must not interfere with recording or playback. Because the studio must be absolutely quiet.

An off-the-shelf Windows PC is often unsuitable. Because the big manufacturers usually optimize it for office applications or gamers. The former are weak, the latter often rush with loud fans. In addition, although audio programs require a lot of CPU power, no graphics calculations worth mentioning are required. A thick graphics card in a complete PC would not only cost money unnecessarily. It would also increase fan noise.

Anyone who is afraid of the high costs for a Mac is therefore better off in the Windows world with a construction proposal optimized for this purpose. To do this, we modified our optimal PC and adapted it to the needs of musicians. We tested the system with the programs Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase and Avid Pro Tools. Of course, the system also works with any other DAW.
