Concert: Peter Kraus is touring with his favorite songs and swinging his hips

Rock ‘n’ roll was booming in the late ’50s and early ’60s. American fans celebrated Elvis’ hip swing and Little Richard’s quiff. In Germany, Peter Kraus emulated the two US stars. With success: the Munich native made his breakthrough in 1956 with his version of Richard’s “Tutti Frutti”. His supple dancing leg eventually earned him the nickname “German Elvis”. Kraus is still gyrating his hips today, and that at the age of 83. Fans can see for themselves how well this works on the “My Hits – My Idols” tour.

At every opportunity, Kraus put a brisk sole on the floor. In the film “WENN die Conny mit dem Peter” he even swung his hips on a table to the song “Sugar Baby” and earned lovely looks from the ladies. While the young, lanky man blossomed into a teenage idol in this country, Elvis Presley was crowned the “King of Rock’n’Roll” in the States. With or without an aristocratic title in his pocket – Peter Kraus was an integral part of the German charts until 1964.

The repertoire from this period may have found its way onto the set list of the “Meine Hits – Meine Idole” tour. But Peter Kraus not only devotes himself to his own hits on the tour, but also sings those of his idols. The idea came to him while the infamous virus was taking over the world. “I sang at home. The songs of my early youth. By Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Samy Davis Jr., Ella and Louis and many more. It was their hits back then that made me want to make music too,” he enthuses.

The man with the well-fitting jeans is accompanied on this journey through time by longtime musical companions. And even if rock’n’roll echoed through society like an outcry at its peak, the singer promises not to overload his performances with “loud” technology. In addition to his legendary hip movement, of course, he relies much more on the natural rhythm of the “good old times”.
