Wingo, a subsidiary of Copa, will operate in the domestic market of Panama. Wingo Panama already has the operation certificate from the Panama Civil Aeronautics Authority and will start on August 11 with the Panama City – David route.

The route will have two frequencies a week, on Fridays and Sundays, and represents the incursion of the low-cost model in the domestic market of Panama. “We are very excited to continue in our growth process and to take the Wingo service and model, successfully tested in Colombia, to other latitudes in Latin America,” said Eduardo Lombana, CEO of Wingo.

And he added that, with Wingo Panama, they already have two airlines that operate under the Wingo brand that belong to Copa Holdings, “one of the most solid aeronautical groups in the Americas,” said Lombana.

With the new operation in Panama of Wingo Panama, the company has already completed six new routes implemented in 2023, representing an increase in its number of routes of 17% and being the year with the highest growth in its operation.

Added to this launch are the routes that connect Bogotá with Barranquilla, Bucaramanga and Pereira, in the Colombian domestic market, as well as the two new international routes, Cali – Aruba and Bogotá – Caracas.

“We are going to continue demonstrating that the low-cost model is sustainable when it is managed correctly, with adequate growth schemes based on the needs of the market. The launch of our airline in Panama is a new step in the right direction,” said Lombana. (Wingo adds 3 routes from Medellín that were operated by Ultra and Viva).
