Those visiting Copenhagen during the year of architecture can see and visit old buildings and urban environments, such as the popular Nyhavn with houses from the late 17th century, the royal palaces and cultural institutions.

– There is a lot of old that is nice, but we also want to show modern architecture such as our metro, our bicycle bridges and experimental buildings, says Camilla van Deurs, who is an urban architect for climate and urban development in Copenhagen.

She shows around the old railway area which has been turned into a housing fair.

– Here we want to show how to build more sustainable houses, for example by using more wood and less concrete.

Many visitors from all over the world

Copenhagen’s year of architecture has been given the title “Copenhagen in Common” and will focus on history, everyday life and nature with a large number of events around the city and the region throughout 2023.

– This year of architecture can focus on future trends and we can ask critical questions about how we develop the city together, says Camilla Deurs.

She expects that there will be many visitors to the various events. One of them is a large international world congress for architects and professionals at the beginning of July. The theme is “Sustainable Futures – Leave No One Behind”.

A longer report will be broadcast in Kulturnyheterna this evening, Monday.
