Whereas Marvel’s Avengers dreamed of being a game-sum in which the countless characters of the Marvel universe would have come to rekindle the interest of the players according to updates, the adventure will finally stop after two and a half years and 12 superheroes playable in all and for all. A predictable outcome for a game which Square Enix had quickly warned of sales below expectations in the wake of its launch. And this although the game, associated with the launch of Final Fantasy VII Remake, had contributed to the best fiscal year in the history of Square Enix.

Single player and multiplayer will remain playable

Released last November with the Winter Soldier and the omega-level threat from the Clone Lab, Update 2.7 will remain the game’s latest content addition. Update 2.8 on March 31 will be limited to effect to the final balances of the game, while the date of September 30 will mark the end of all official support. This will not prevent the owners of the power game from indulging in solo and multiplayer beyond this date.

Naturally, no new cosmetic items will be added to the market by the time of shutdown. On the contrary, the cosmetics market will be closed in the coming weeks and credits can no longer be purchased after March 31. For players who already have credits in their pocket, their balance will be transformed into in-game resources, according to the conversion table available here. The game having abandoned any desire for monetization, all the elements of the market will be available for free, a way of thanking the community still present.

Despite the regrets, the end of the updates of Marvel’s Avengers should also be a relief for the workforce of Crystal Dynamics, already busy with the development of the next Tomb Raider, which we recently learned that it will be able to count on Amazon Games to assume the responsibilities of publisher. At the same time, part of the team collaborates with the studio The Initiative for the development of the very discreet Perfect Dark.
