Gelsenkirchen.
Over Pentecost, the “Rock Hard Festival” will once again take place in the Gelsenkirchen amphitheater. Thousands of metal fans are also expected at the 20th edition.

Metal fans have two reasons to celebrate in 2023: “Rock Hard” magazine is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the one that goes with it “Rock Hard Festival”, which always takes place at Pentecost in Gelsenkirchen, is around 20 years old. Thousands of visitors from many parts of Europe are again expected for the anniversary edition, which takes place from May 26th to 28th in the amphitheater in Horst. Advance ticket sales are already in full swing.

Michael Schenker Group is one of the headliners in the Gelsenkirchen amphitheater

One of the headliners is already certain: It is Michael Schenker – according to organizer and “Rock Hard” publisher Holger Stratmann “the most renowned hard rock guitarist in Germany”. He will once again get the crowds on the banks of the Rhine-Herne Canal going. “Watching Schenker today is at least as exciting as it was 40 years ago. He’s still in top form. We’re looking forward to it,” says Stratmann.

For fans of the blackest metal, triptycon icon Tom G. Warrior will present an exclusive set with songs from the Cult band Celtic Frost to play. This completes a circle: Tom once received his first cover story in a music magazine in “Rock Hard”. That was in 1987.

Psychotic Waltz are catching up on their unusual performance from 2020

Promised for Pentecost in amphitheater also have will and exodus. And Brian Downey’s Alive and Dangerous dare a trip to the 70s: The Thin Lizzy co-founder wants to focus on the legendary first live album of the Irish hard rock superstars during his performance.

Psychotic Waltz were actually supposed to perform at the “Rock Hard Festival” in 2020, but the corona pandemic that was rampant around the world at the time thwarted these plans. The band is making up for this canceled performance three years later and will be presenting material from the album “The God-Shaped Void” live for the first time.

Three-day tickets cost just under 120 euros

Also at the start of the three-day open-air event are Depressive Age, Holy Moses with cult shouter Sabina Classen (last tour!) as well as Benediction and Discharge, who are guests in the amphitheater for the first time. Visitors to the Nordsternpark area can also find out about performances by Nestor; Knife and Legion Of The Damned are happy.

Three-day tickets cost 119.90 euros including fees (ticket plus camping: 152.40 euros). Questions about “tickets” will be answered on: 0231 56 20 14 20 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) or by email . Information and tickets online: www.rockhardfestival.de.
