Copenhagen – On her 83rd birthday, the Danish Queen Margrethe II showed her compatriots on the balcony of her palace today. Beaming in her light blue suit, she waved to the cheering crowds who had gathered on the palace square with Denmark flags around noon. In tow she had her family, who also waved from the balcony.
According to the Danish newspaper “Billed-Bladet”, the family is said to have met at the Amalienborg City Palace for lunch together.

With the appearance, the monarch wants to start her working life again after a back operation in February. In the past few months, Margrethe II had canceled numerous appointments due to rehabilitation or transferred them to her son, Crown Prince Frederik (54) and his wife Mary (51).
On Wednesday evening, the Danish queen appeared in public for the first time when she moved into her residence in Fredensborg, about 40 kilometers north of Copenhagen, as is usually the case in spring. At the royal palace, the residents of the city greeted the monarch with a torchlight procession.
Traditionally, many people cheer the Queen on her birthday from Castle Square with small Danish flags. It’s been a few years since she celebrated her day of honor in Copenhagen in this way.
