With Pandas AI, the Python library Pandas has been extended by an AI function. Pandas is a popular tool among data analysts for exploring and plotting large tables. Pandas AI does not replace Pandas, but can only be used in conjunction with this library and thus made interoperable.

In addition to simple questions such as “Find all numbers that are greater than x”, questions can also be asked, for example about the total gross domestic product of the two unhappiest countries. However, as usual, a DataFrame with lists of the country, the gross domestic product and the “Happiness_index” (country, gdp and happiness_index) must first be imported. To understand the prompt, Pandas AI uses OpenAI’s GPT large language model (LLM).

The developer Gabriele Venturi places the project under the MIT license freely available on Github. Additional costs may arise for the OpenAI API access that is also required.

Venturi also encourages other developers to contribute to the project. Pandas AI will also support other LLMs in the future. A web interface is also planned. If you just want to try the tool, a Jupyter notebook with a demo version is available for them.
