The incident happened on Tuesday evening in London. Neither Charles III nor his wife Camilla were at Buckingham Palace at the time of the incident.

The incident happened four days before Charles III’s coronation ceremony. A man was arrested by British police on Tuesday evening near Buckingham Palace after throwing objects, possibly shotgun shells, according to the BBC.

According to Buckingham Palace, neither Charles III nor his wife Camilla were at the palace at the time of the incident.

The arrest took place at 8 p.m. and a security perimeter was then established by the police. On a video broadcast by the Australian channel Channel 7, we can see a man with a long checkered shirt being handcuffed before being escorted by two police officers.

The man is suspected of having been in possession of an “offensive weapon” and a suspicious bag. On the spot, the police also carried out a controlled explosion as a precaution.

No injuries or shots

According to Scotland Yard, “no shots were fired and there were no injuries, either among the police or among other people present”. “The forces of order remain on the spot and investigations are in progress”, adds the Metropolitan Police.

This arrest comes as the first fans of the British royal family have already settled on the Mall, a vast London artery leading to Buckingham Palace. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected in the center of the British capital on Saturday for the coronation of Charles III, the first since 1953.
