Dead Island 2 is finally out after nearly 10 years of waiting. And if the game is not flawless, it is nevertheless particularly impressive on PS5 and Xbox Series, with supporting evidence.

One of the great Arlesians of video games is finally out. Dead Island 2 is nearly 10 years of incredible teasing and development. After a series of internal reboots and studio changes, the game ended up waiting for our home consoles and PCs. So, yes, the game shows its age in many aspects, especially with regard to its classic structure or even some of its mechanics. However, the game is not bad at all and is currently enjoying great popularity on social networks, in particular because of its FLESH system, a literally impressive damage location technology that takes gore to a whole new dimension. No offense to The Callisto Protocol. But more than that, it turns out that the game is a real technical monster on PS5 and Xbox Series.

Dead Island 2, a technical masterclass on PS5 and Xbox Series?

In any case, this is what emerges from the in-depth analysis carried out by Digital Foundry. Tech experts have once again brought out the heavy artillery to autopsy Dead Island 2 and see what was in his stomach. Besides a deluge of bloody guts, Dead Island 2 delivers a flawless experience on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game runs like a charm at 60fps no matter what’s happening on screen.
Whether you prefer to cut zombies by the dozen by making their entrails flutter or you go to play with the environment to overload the screen with light and particle effects, the consoles of Sony and Microsoft do not flinch and maintain an optimal framerate no matter the cost.
Digital Foundry also informs us that the game runs with a resolution of 3072×1728 (1728p) on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The Series S has a slightly lower resolution but remains very solid visually. Dead Island 2 is therefore one of the (too) rare games (unfortunately) to be perfectly stable as soon as they are released. And it feels good.

Mouth of love

The old gen holds the shock also

But while Dead Island 2 shines on PS5 and Xbox Series, the PS4 and Xbox One versions also do very well. The game obviously makes some graphic concessions in terms of detail, finesse and resolution (depending on the version), but can boast of remaining constantly at 30 fps. We will note a few drops of one or two images per second here and there on the so-called “fat” consoles, but given the advanced age of the latter, it is difficult to hold it against them. For the rest, it’s flawless, whether on PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One or One X.
On the other hand, the loading times are much, much higher than on the latest generation consoles. Some areas will require you to stay camped in front of the loading screen for over a minute sometimes, while it only takes a few seconds on PS5 and Xbox Series.
Nevertheless, here too Dead Island 2 is far above the lot. In short, regardless of the console version chosen, the title is perfectly stable and technically very solid.
