Scheduled for this Friday, April 21, Dead Island 2 is eagerly awaited by players, eager to be able to knock out zombies in the streets of Los Angeles. While our complete test is already available,
Dambuster Studios
lifted the veil on the features and characteristics related to cooperation.

No crossplay in Dead Island 2

First, the studio confirmed that the game would not be cross-play compatible. If you were hoping to play co-op with a friend on PlayStation or PC, unfortunately that won’t be possible.

The game, on the other hand, will be cross-gen, which means that you can play with a friend on the same family of consoles. For example, if you’re playing on Xbox Series X, someone on Xbox One will be able to join your session.

Dead Island 2 offers a cooperative mode for up to 3 players, so you will have to find friends in the same ecosystem as you to take advantage of it.

PS4 and Xbox One players will not be able to create a co-op session

Another important subtlety, it is also specified that Xbox One and PS4 players will not be able to create a coop session. Dambuster Studios explains that because of the game’s graphic ambitions, only Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PS4 Pro and PS5 players will be able to coughs co-op sessions.

This means that if you’re playing on Xbox One, and want to play co-op with a friend who also plays on Xbox One (or Xbox One S), you won’t be able to play together since neither of you will be able to create a co-op session.

Note that the studio has confirmed that it is working on a solution to allow Xbox One and PS4 players to create co-op sessions, but it will not be available when the game launches.

Dead Island 2 will be available on April 21 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC as well as on Xbox Series X| and PS5. If you want to pre-order the game, you will find all the editions available at the best price below.
